Sea Dogs Drop the Series Opener 6-1 in Akron

Akron, Ohio - The Akron RubberDucks (40-28) scored three in the third inning, and RHP Will Roberts (6-7) fired six strong innings, as Akron took the series opener from Portland, 6-1 on Friday night at Canal Park.

Roberts earned his seventh quality start of the season, giving up just six hits on one run, no walks and fanned four. Akron's bullpen of Enosil Tejeda (2 IP) and Louis Head (IP) closed out the game with three scoreless. Head fanned the side in the ninth.

LHP Mickey Pena (2-2) matched a season-high with 6.1 innings pitched, but suffered his second loss this month. Pena yielded 11 hits, which tied a team-high, allowing all six runs. The lefty walked two and fanned four.

The RubberDucks snapped a 1-1 tie, scoring three runs in the third inning. Francisco Lindor led off with a double and moved to third on a single by Tony Wolters. Joe Wendle (3-for-3, 2 RBI) had a big night for Akron, and provided the game-winning RBI with a two-run double. Bryan Lahair (3-for-4) followed with a run-scoring single to left-center field.

Wendle and LeHair added RBI's in the seventh inning for Akron's final two runs.

Akron scored a two-out run in the first inning, receiving three straight singles with two outs off Pena. Lavisky knocked home Wendle for the game's first run.

Portland tied the game in the third. Derrik Gibson and Deven Marrero set the table with consecutive singles and Blake Swihart delivered a sacrifice fly.

Sean Coyle had two of Portland's seven hits, and has hit safely in 15 of 18 games since returning from the disabled list. Portland turned a season-high four double plays. Robby Scott tossed a scoreless eight for Portland, lowering his ERA to 0.59 (2 ER/30.1 IP)

The Sea Dogs and Akron RubberDucks play game two of their series on Saturday night at 7:05 PM from Canal Park. Portland is slated to send LHP Henry Owens (7-3, 2.24) makes his 13th start of the season for Portland. Akron sends RHP Duke von Schamann (Shaw-munn).
