
'Wolves Drop Finale to Sea Dogs

The SeaWolves failed to hold a late lead on Thursday night at Hadlock Field as they dropped their second straight to the Portland Sea Dogs 5-3.
The 'Wolves jumped ahead on Felix Doubront in the top of the third inning. Corey Jones extended his hitting streak to eight straight games with a leadoff single. Jones moved to third on a Craig Albernaz single and he scored on an error making it 1-0. Albernaz scored on a Ramon Cabrera base knock for a 2-0 lead.
The Sea Dogs cut the lead in half in the fifth against Erie starter Tommy Collier. Keury De La Cruz led off with a walk. With one out Heiker Menesses walked and Derrik Gibson was hit by a pitch, loading the bases for Bo Greenwell. Greenwell hit into a fielder's choice, plating De La Cruz, making it a 2-1 game.
Collier left after six innings and took a no-decision. He allowed run on two hits with four walks while striking out a season-high seven.
Portland tied the game in the seventh off of reliever Slade Smith. Matt Spring led off, was hit by a pitch and was replaced by pinch runner Jonathan Roof. Roof moved to second on a Menesses bunt and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Roof scored on a Devon Travis error, tying the game.
The Dogs took the lead in the eighth. Deveon Marrero walked to start the inning and moved into scoring position on a Blake Swihart hit. Stefan Welch tripled home the runners for a 4-2 Portland lead. Portland would add an insurance run on a Roof single taking a 5-2 lead into the ninth.
Marcus Lemon led off the ninth with a triple and scored on a Cabrera base knock, cutting the Portland lead to two at 5-3 against reliever Miguel Celestino. After the hit, Celestino retired the side in order, earning the save.
Smith (0-2) took the loss allowing four runs on three hits with two walks and a strikeout.
