Reading Fightin Phils News Release
Severino Gonzalez struck out a season high 10 batters while Reading had an early 4-0 lead.
Severino Gonzalez was destined for one of his strongest outings of the season but fell victim to a Curve comeback as the Fightins lost 5-4. Allen Hansen of the Curve hit a sacrifice bunt off reliever Ryan O'Sullivan with runners on first and second base in the bottom of the 9th inning and a throwing error by Carlos Alonso allowed the winning run to score. Reading is now 31-33 on the season, their lowest point since starting 0-2 to begin the season.
Aaron Altherr extended his hitting streak to 10 games on a two-out, two-run double in the top of the 3rd inning off Curve starter Zach Dodson to give the Fightins a 2-0 lead. Jake Fox in his second at-bat for the Fightins hit a two-run home run off Dodson to extend the lead to 4-0 in the top of the 3rd inning.
Severino Gonzalez cruised through the first four innings as he only allowed four base runners on four hits. In the bottom of the 5th inning he gave up a solo home run to third baseman Jarek Cunningham as the Curve got on the board trailing 4-1.
Gonzalez was chased out of the game in the bottom of the 7th inning as he allowed three runs as the Curve tied the game at 4-4. Matt Curry hit a pinch-hit single to score Gift Ngoepe after he led off the inning with a triple. Allen Hansen hit a RBI triple to score Curry and Andy Vasquez hit a single off reliever Ryan O'Sullivan to score Hansen to cap off the inning.
Severino Gonzalez logged 6 1/3 innings and struck out a season high 10 batters while allowing four runs off nine hits. Ryan O'Sullivan received his second blown save and third loss of the season.
The Fightin Phils and Altoona Curve will play on Saturday night at 6:00 pm from Peoples Natural Gas Field. Left-hander Hoby Milner (4-3, 3.60 ERA) will be on the mound for the Fightins.
