WORCESTER, M.A. - The Worcester Red Sox (39-36) finished off the first half and a series victory over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (36-37) with a rout on Sunday afternoon, a 9-2 win at Polar Park. The WooSox conclude the International League first half with a record of 39-36, a 24-16 mark at home and eight series wins in 13 tries.

Worcester began its nine-run, 10-hit day in the second, taking an early lead on a sac-fly by Stephen Scott. The swing would give Scott the first of four RBI on the afternoon.

The WooSox took command of the game in the third, smashing five extra-base-hits off Lehigh Valley starter Noah Skirrow in the inning. Niko Goodrum, Wilyer Abreu, Daniel Palka and Scott all hit doubles, while Narciso Crook added a triple. Goodrum led off the inning with his two-bagger, while all the other swings drove home a run, giving Worcester a 5-0 lead through three.

Two innings later, it took only two swings to put another four spot on the board for the home team. With a man on, Scott crushed a 422-foot shot to right, his 11th and 12th RBI in 10 Triple-A games (10 of his RBI have come this week). After a hit-by-pitch, Nick Sogard launched his second Worcester home run and first at Polar Park, a two-run job to extend the lead to 9-1.

Starter Shane Drohan exited with the training staff after four scoreless innings; he was followed by Chase Shugart, who allowed only a solo homer to Weston Wilson over two innings of work.

Joely Rodríguez made his third rehab outing of the week in the seventh, striking out three and allowing a soft infield single. The left-hander threw 17 pitches (13 strikes). In his organizational debut, Tayler Scott gave up a solo shot to Weston Wilson in the eighth, but Ryan Fernandez tossed a scoreless ninth to lock down the Worcester victory.

Max Ferguson and Oscar Rangel made their Triple-A debuts for the WooSox.

The WooSox are off Monday and Tuesday, and begin a six-game road series and the start of their second half against the Buffalo Bisons at 1:05 p.m. on Wednesday. On the mound, Brandon Walter (1-5, 6.28) faces Casey Lawrence (2-6, 5.18). Radio coverage is live at 12:45 p.m. on 98.9 Nash Icon and the WooSox Radio Network.
