Buffalo Bisons News Release
MOOSIC, PA - Seven Buffalo pitchers combined for the Herd's first shutout of the season on Sunday afternoon, as the Bisons defeated the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Rail Riders 2-0 in the series finale at PNC Field in Moosic, Pennsylvania.
Pitchers dueled for the first five innings of Sunday's contest, before Buffalo broke a scoreless tie in the top of the sixth inning. Karl Ellison started the frame with a double, and then the next batter, Otto Lopez, jumped on Randy Vasquez's first offering and sent it just over the left-center field fence to make the score 2-0 Bisons. Those would be the only runs scored in the game.
Buffalo's seven pitchers combined to allow just three hits, striking out nine in their nine scoreless innings Sunday.
Paxton Schultz started the game for Buffalo and didn't allow a hit and struck out four in three innings of work, before being relieved by Yosver Zulueta, who continued the scoreless streak. Zulueta, Junior Fernández, Thomas Hatch, Hagen Danner, Jimmy Burnette and Hayden Juenger closed the game out for Buffalo, each throwing one inning scoreless in relief of Lynch. Juenger induced a ground ball double-play from Josh Breaux to close out the game and earn his first save of the season.
The Bisons have off days on Monday and Tuesday, and then they start a six-game series at home against the Worcester Red Sox on Wednesday. Wednesday's game, which is at 1:05 p.m. at Sahlen Field, is the first game of the Triple-A second half.
