LONG BEACH, Calif. – On Friday night, the Long Beach Ice Dogs will host the Alaska Aces, and welcome NHL All-Star Scott Gomez. The Aces signed Gomez October 25th due to the NHL lockout and he has helped the team to a 5-2-1 record since after starting 0-2-0.

Gomez, a native of Anchorage, won the Stanley Cup twice with the New Jersey Devils, in both 2000 and 2003. The 2000 NHL Rookie of the Year was originally drafted by New Jersey in the 1st Round (27th overall) in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. Last season, Gomez finished tied for first in the NHL with 56 assists while finishing with 70 points and a career best +18 rating. After the All-Star break in 2004, he led the entire league in scoring.

In 8 games played with Alaska so far this season, Gomez has registered 1 goal and 6 assists and is currently tied for second on the team in points with 7. Friday will be the first opportunity for Ice Dogs fans to see a current NHL star visit the Long Beach Arena this season. The Ice Dogs are currently tied for 2nd in the West Division at 5-2-0, trailing first place Alaska by one point in the standings.
