Behind six strong innings by starter Mark Cohoon, the Savannah Sand Gnats defeated the Lexington Legends 7-2 Friday night in Savannah. The Sand Gnats have taken the first three games of the four-game series.

Cohoon (4-0) pitched six and one-third innings, his longest outing of the year, and allowed six hits and two runs while walking one and striking out three.

Savannah broke a 1-1 tie with four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Juan Lagares singled and stole second ahead of walks to Wilmer Flores and Sam Honeck. With Jefry Marte batting, Lexington starter Robby Donovan was ejected from the game after an argument with plate umpire Jonathan Bailey over ball-and-strike calls. After Donovan was replaced by Wander Alvino, Marte doubled, scoring Lagares and Flores, and sending Honeck to third. After Kai Gronauer struck out, Cesar Puello singled to score Honeck. An error by shortstop Jiovanni Mier on a ground ball hit by Alonzo Harris allowed Marte to score, giving Savannah a 5-1 lead.

An RBI single by Lexington's J.D. Martinez in the fifth inning made the score 5-2. Martinez, who entered the game batting .359, third in the South Atlantic League, had a single and a triple.

Gronauer hit a solo homer in the sixth, and the Sand Gnats added a final run in the eighth when Lagares tripled and came home as Flores' grounder was bobbled by second baseman Jose Altuve.

The series concludes Saturday night with a 6:05 p.m. game. The Legends are off Sunday, and will play Kannapolis Monday night at 7:05 p.m. at Applebee's Park to begin an eight-game homestand.
