Lexington Legends News Release

The Savannah Sand Gnats completed a four-game sweep of the Lexington Legends with a 3-1 victory Saturday night in Savannah.

Savannah broke on top with a run in the first inning. With two outs, Sam Honeck walked and Jefry Marte was hit by a pitch. A wild pitch by Lexington starter Juan Minaya moved the runners to second and third, and Honeck scored on a base hit by Kai Gronauer.

The Legends tied it in the fourth when Jiovanni Mier led off with a walk, went to third on a double by Jake Goebbert, and scored on an infield out by J.D. Martinez. But the Sand Gnats came back with two in the bottom of the fourth. Cesar Puello led off with a bunt single, and Jeff Flagg was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second. Alex Gregory flied to right field, moving Puello to third. An error by third baseman Jonathan Meyer on a ball hit by Luis Rivera allowed Puello to score with the go-ahead run. Alonzo Harris followed with an infield hit to load the bases, and a sacrifice fly by Juan Lagares made the score 3-1.

Brandon Moore (1-1) worked the first six innings to get the win. Minaya (0-4), who also worked six innings, was the losing pitcher.

The Legends return home to open an eight-game homestand Monday night against Kannapolis. First pitch at Applebee's Park is set for 7:05 pm.
