Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
KANNAPOLIS, NC - For the second straight night the BlueClaws were dominated by a Kannapolis starter, as Lakewood fell 5-1 Saturday evening.
Terry Doyle (3-1) struck out 11 in innings, limiting the BlueClaws (13-11) to just four hits and one run. Doyle has now allowed only four runs in 33 innings this season.
BlueClaws starter Brody Colvin (1-4) turned in the best start of his young career, giving up four runs in 6.2 innings, striking out seven. Two of the runs were charged to Colvin but scored after he had left the game in the seventh.
The BlueClaws took the lead in the fourth on a Darin Ruf solo shot, his second homer in as many days to make it 1-0 Lakewood. Ruf is now tied for the team lead in home runs with Anthony Hewitt at three.
Kannapolis (11-13) jumped on top in the fifth. With two outs catcher Kevin Dubler hit a bloop double to left, and Zach Kayne brought him home with a base hit to tie the game.
Daniel Wagner then doubled in Kayne to give the Intimidators a 2-1 lead.
Kannapolis would add two more insurance runs in the seventh on a Wagner double to make it 4-1, and an Ian Gac solo homer in the 8th pushed the Intimidators' lead to four.
ClawsNotes: The BlueClaws have their first off day of the season Sunday after playing 24 games in a row to start the season. They'll return home Monday at 6:35 pm as RHP Jonathan Pettibone (1-0 4.57) faces Charleston righty Kelvin Perez (2-0 1.05).
With a base hit in the first BlueClaws second baseman Jeremy Barnes extended his hit streak to 11 games.
Leandro Castro became the first Lakewood player to be ejected this season after throwing his bat in frustration after a called third strike in the third inning.
