
Savannah Takes 9-2 Win over Legends

(SAVANNAH, Ga.) The Savannah Sand Gnats scored six runs in the second inning on their way to a 9-2 win over the Lexington Legends in the opener of a three-game series Tuesday night.
The Legends scored two runs in the top of the first inning on a single by Ethan Chapman, a triple by Raul Mondesi and a ground out by Bubba Starling, but the Sand Gnats came back with six runs on five hits and three walks in the second to take the lead for good.
Kevin Plawecki led off the bottom of the second with a single. Stefan Sabol walked, and Eudy Pina singled, loading the bases. Jeff Reynolds followed with a two-run single to center field, and after Philip Evans struck out, Yucary De La Cruz singled, loading the bases again. Maikis De La Cruz walked, forcing in a run and giving Savannah the lead at 3-2. Brandon Nimmo singled, scoring Reynolds, and Jayce Boyd walked, forcing in another run. Plawecki's sacrifice fly brought home Maikis De La Cruz with the sixth run of the inning.
Savannah added a run in the sixth inning on Nimmo's RBI single and two more in the seventh, one coming on a solo homer by Sabol.
Marcos Camerena (2-0), who entered the game in the fourth inning, got the win. Legends starter Daniel Stumpf (3-4) took the loss.
The two teams will meet again Wednesday night. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
