Asheville Tourists News Release

ROME - The Asheville Tourists offense has put some big games together this season; however, they have also had some no-shows. Tonight, in Rome, Asheville's offensive production could be described as the latter.

The Tourists tied a season-low with only two hits and were shutout 1-0 by the Rome Braves. It is the fifth time the Tourists have been held without a run this season and the third time by Rome. Asheville's two hits came by way of a pair of groundball singles; one from Casey Golden and one from Bret Boswell.

Asheville's bats picked a bad night to go quiet. Antonio Santos registered his best outing of the season. The Tourists starting pitcher tossed a season-high seven innings and scattered eight hits. Santos also had to deal with Dansby Swanson at the top of the Rome batting order who was making a rehab appearance.

The only scoring play of the game came with one out in the bottom of the sixth. Jean Carlos Encarnacion hit a solo Home Run down the left field line.

Bruce Zimmerman and Brandon White combined for the shutout. Zimmerman began the game by retiring 11 in a row and needed only 80 pitches to complete seven frames. White finished the contest by sitting down six straight for his sixth save of the season.

Nate Harris worked a scoreless eighth inning out of Asheville's bullpen to give the Tourists a chance in the ninth, but the offense could not put anything together. Asheville will look to bounce back on Friday night with a 7:00pm first pitch in Rome.
