Lexington Legends Fall to West Virginia in Game One

APPALACHIAN POWER PARK (Charleston, WV) - The Lexington Legends traveled to West Virginia to face the Power, and fell in game one 3-2. The Legends record falls to 18-19 and the Power improves to 23-14.

The Power plated their first run in the bottom of the first inning. With Nolan Watson on the mound, Calvin Mitchell homered to right field to put the Power ahead, 1-0.

The Legends scored their first run of the game in the top of the fifth inning. Marten Gasparini singled on a line drive to left field then advanced to second on a base hit by Matt Morales. With runners at first and second, Ricky Aracena reached on a fielder's choice to third base. On the play, Morales scored on a throwing error by the Power's third baseman, Dylan Busby. After the fifth, the game was tied at one.

In the top of the sixth, Lolo Sanchez and Oneil Cruz reached on back-to-back singles. Chris Sharpe then put down a sacrifice bunt, moving both runners up a base. With runners at second and third, Sanchez scored on a wild pitch by Lexington's pitcher, Nolan Watson, and the Power led 2-1.

Lexington scored their final run in the top of the sixth inning. Travis Jones led off the inning with a double to right field. Sebastian Rivero then put down a bunt to the catcher, Deon Stafford Jr., who committed a throwing error, allowing Jones to score. After the sixth, the Legends and Power were tied at two.

In the bottom of the sixth, Dylan Busby blasted a home run over the left field wall, putting West Virginia ahead, 3-2.

Domingo Robles was awarded the win for the Power, tossing 7.0 innings allowing two runs (none earned) on five hits with six strikeouts. Nolan Watson was given the loss, pitching 6.0 innings allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out five and walking three. Andrew Beckwith pitched in relief, throwing 2.0 shutout innings on one hit and striking out two.

The same two teams meet tomorrow night for game two. The Legends will send RHP Carlos Hernandez (1-1, 3.68 ERA) to face RHP Sergio Cubilete (0-2, 4.91 ERA) of the Power.
