Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
CHARLESTON, WV - A pair of timely homers from Calvin Mitchell and Dylan Busby, along with a strong start from Domingo Robles, led to a 3-2 Power victory over the Lexington Legends at Appalachian Power Park on Thursday evening.
Robles (3-3) worked through a career high-tying seven innings while allowing two runs, neither of which were earned, and tallied six strikeouts. The southpaw has thrown three quality starts in as many appearences in the month of May, posting a 2.37 ERA through 19 innings since April 30.
Blake Weiman and Matt Seelinger (S, 3) closed out the game, each tossing a scoreless inning in relief of Robles. After Weiman issued a one-out walk in the eighth, he was able to induce a 4-6-3 double play to finish the frame. Seelinger began the ninth by ceding a base hit, but then emphatically struck out the side to earn his third save in as many opportunities.
West Virginia (23-14) jumped on the scoreboard in the first behind Mitchell's home run to right field off Lexington (18-19) starter Nolan Watson (2-4), his fifth of the season, to give the Power a 1-0 edge.
The score was evened in the top of the fifth when Matt Morales came around to score off a Busby throwing error. Morales singled to put Marten Gasparini at third base before Ricky Aracena rocketed a ball right at Busby. The third baseman tagged Gasparini on the way home, but then threw the ball past a covering Oneil Cruz at third, allowing Morales to score and tie the game.
Lolo Sanchez gave West Virginia the lead again in the bottom of the frame, as the speedster scored on a wild pitch from Watson. However, the Legends were able to scratch back even in the top of the sixth on a throwing error from Deon Stafford.
With the game tied at two in the sixth, Busby more than made up for his earlier miscue, launching his fourth home run of the month well beyond the left-field fence on the first pitch he saw from Watson. The Florida State product has 11 RBI to go along with his four dingers in the month of May through 10 games.
