May 17, 2018 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Charleston RiverDogs News Release
CHARLESTON, S.C.- The New York Yankees have announced that infielder Dermis Garcia, the Yankees' No. 22 prospect according the MLB Pipeline, has been called up to Class A Charleston.
Garcia, 20, joins the RiverDogs for a second stint after providing some much-needed pop in the RiverDogs lineup for the final month of the 2017 campaign. After an August 1 call up last year, the Dominican Republic native clobbered eight home runs while batting .227 with a .518 slugging percentage. All eight of his long balls came in the month of August, tying him for the league-lead over his span. Between 63 games at the Class A and rookie ball levels, he blasted 17 total, tied for the 3rd most in the Yankees system despite playing just a half season.
In a corresponding move, infielder David Metzgar was reassigned to extended spring training.
Charleston (17-21) opens a four-game homestand, facing the Columbia Fireflies at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday night. For those that can't make it out to the park, the game will be broadcast on WTMA 1250 AM and online streaming at riverdogs.com and the RiverDogs TuneIn radio station.
RiverDogs single-game tickets are now available for the 2018 campaign, the club's 25th season as the RiverDogs and their "175th season in dog years." Ticket information can be secured by contacting the box office at (843) 577-DOGS (3647) or online at www.riverdogs.com/tickets.
