Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
GREENSBORO, NC - Nick Maton drove in the game winning run as part of a four-run ninth inning as the BlueClaws came from behind to top Greensboro 4-1 on Thursday night at First National Bank Field.
Trailing 1-0, Gregori Rivero tied the game in the ninth with an RBI triple off closer Bryce Howe. He drove in pinch-runner Yahir Gurrola, who entered after Quincy Nieporte drew a one-out walk. On the first pitch of the next at bat, Maton delivered his RBI single to put the BlueClaws ahead.
Dalton Guthrie and Jake Scheiner added RBI singles in the ninth for the BlueClaws, who won for the first time this year when trailing entering the ninth inning.
Julian Garcia (1-1), who threw a 1-2-3 eighth inning, earned the win for the BlueClaws while Addison Russ picked up his seventh save.
The BlueClaws (21-17) have now won six of their last eight games while Greensboro (16-20) has dropped nine of their last 10.
BlueClaws starter Will Stewart gave up one unearned run in six innings with one walk and seven strikeouts. He has not allowed an earned run in either of his last two starts, covering 14 innings.
Brady Puckett gave up five hits over seven innings for Greensboro. The right-hander out of Lipscomb has allowed just one run in 14 innings over two starts so far this year against the BlueClaws.
Marcos Rivera singled in a run in the first inning off Will Stewart to open the scoring. It was the only Hoppers run on the night.
Rivero, Maton and Guthrie all had two hits for Lakewood.
The teams will play at 7:00 pm on both Friday and Saturday nights with a Sunday afternoon game at 2:00 pm.
