Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Greenville, SC: The Augusta GreenJackets, South Atlantic League affiliate of San Francisco Giants, won 2-1 against the Greenville Drive on Thursday afternoon.

The story of the day was the pitching staff for the GreenJackets. In the first inning, the Drive got one across to take an early lead. This would be the last time the Drive would score a run and lead the game. In the top of the second inning, T.J. Bennett hit a two-run home run that gave the GreenJackets the lead.

From there, it was up to the pitching staff to keep the lead intact. GreenJackets starter Aaron Phillips went five innings only giving up five hits, while striking out three. He came up clutch with big strikeouts when the Drive were threatening to tie the game.

The ball was then turned over to Carlos Sano, who went two innings only giving up one hit. In five innings pitched this season, he has only given up one hit. Then Camilo Doval came out of the bullpen and got the eighth inning over quickly, with fastballs that topped 100 mph.

Finally in the ninth inning, the ball was once again given to Frank Rubio for the save. He had a clean inning and secured the 2-1 victory. This was his eighth save which is most in the South Atlantic League.

The GreenJackets will be back in action tomorrow for game two of the series at 7:05 pm.

The GreenJackets will be back at SRP Park starting the May 21st against the Charleston Riverdogs! Bring your furry friends for the first bark in the park! On the 22nd, we will have baseball bingo and a Senior Health Expo! The next night, will have Hump Day Happy Hour and Big Beers, Brats, and BBQ presented by Maurice's Piggy Park.
