Grand Junction Jackalopes News Release

Brendan Sanger doubled home two runs with one out in the ninth inning as the Orem Owlz came back to beat the Grand Junction Rockies at Suplizio Fied 5-4 on Sunday afternoon.

Sanger's double happened after Sam Thoele walked two of the first three men he faced in the ninth inning, and it was his second hit of the day. It's Thoele's first blown save of the season, and the first time the Rockies have lost this season when trailing after eight inning.

The Rockies got the winning run on base in the bottom of the inning, but Tyler Watson induced a ground out from Collin Ferguson to end the game.

Orem took the lead with an unearned run in the second inning, but the Rockies answered in the bottom of the inning and took the lead thanks to five straight hits. Sam Hilliard and Tyler Nevin started it with singles, and Jonathan Piron tied the game with a double, moving Nevin to second. He was brought in on Brendan Rodgers' single. Chris Keck followed with another single, scoring Piron.

Michael Hermosillo singled home a run in the third to get the Owlz within a run, and Alex Abbott tied the game when he led off the fifth inning with his third home run, but the Rockies regained the lead in the seventh.

Campbell Wear doubled with one out, and advanced to third when Daniel Suero grounded out. He scored on a wild pitch.

Parker French tossed five innings and surrendered three runs, two earned. Michael Zimmerman kept Orem off the board in the sixth and seventh innings, and Hunter Brothers struck out two in a perfect eighth.

The loss drops the Rockies to 2-4 in the second half, 22-22 overall. They have lost 7-of-9, and four in a row at Suplizio Field.
