Grand Junction Jackalopes News Release

On Saturday night at Suplizio Field, the Orem Owlz jumped in front with a run in the first inning and led wire-to-wire in a 9-4 win over the Grand Junction Rockies.

Juan Moreno started the game with an infield single, and after he stole second, he moved to third base on Michael Pierson's ground out to second, and he scored when Taylor Ward grounded out to third. In the second inning, they added to the lead against Mike Nikorak.

A night after hitting for the cycle, Jared Foster started it with a walk and after he stole second, Brendan Sanger singled him to third, and Alex Abbott made it 3-0 with a 2-run double. Nikorak walked the next two to load the bases, but he struck out Pierson for the second out, only Ward to force in a run, ending Nikorak's night.

He allowed four runs on four hits in 1.2 innings with four walks and a strikeout. Alec Crawford replaced him and finished the second inning, but after he kept the Owlz off the board in the third, Pierson hit a 2-run homer off him in the fourth to make it a six run game.

Grand Junction got on the board with a pair in the fourth inning, but Orem got those two back with a 2-out rally in the fifth against Crawford, ending his night. The Rockies got one of those back in the bottom of the inning, but the teams traded runs in the sixth, which were the last of the night.

The loss drops the Rockies to 2-3 in the second half and 22-21 overall. They have lost 6 of their last 8 games.

Daniel Suero and Bobby Stahel had two hits for the Rockies. Suero now has 16 multi-hit games this season.
