Missoula PaddleHeads News Release
MISSOULA, MONT. - The Missoula Osprey (25-18) managed a season-low three hits en route to suffering its first shutout loss of the year, falling to Billings (21-22) by a count of 5-0 on Sunday from Ogren Park Allegiance Field. With the victory, Billings took three-of-four from the Osprey on the road.
Jason Morozowski collected two of the three hits for Missoula, finishing 2-for-3 with a walk. The only other hit in the game for the Osprey came on a single from Marcus Wilson.
Osprey starter Bryant Holtmann did not factor in the decision after allowing just three hits with four strikeouts over the first 5.0 innings of work. The start was Holtmann's first of his professional career.
Jose Lopez was equally impressive in his start for Billings, striking out a season-high eight batters while allowing just two hits over 4.0 innings in a no-decision.
Neither team could scratch a run across early in the game, as Billings finally broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the sixth. Shane Mardirosian singled with one out before a two-out walk to Reydel Medina extended the inning for Tyler Stephenson. The first-round pick in this year's draft did not waste the opportunity, shooting a two-RBI double into right centerfield to put Billings on the board. Dalton Carter followed with an RBI-single to bring home Stephenson, running the Mustang lead to 3-0.
Mardirosian finished the game 2-for-5, including contributing an RBI-triple as part of a two-run seventh inning that pushed the advantage to the eventual final of 5-0.
Will Lowman, who was on the mound to start the sixth, was charged with all three sixth-inning runs and fell to 0-2 with the loss.
Sarkis Ohanian took over on the mound in the fifth for Billings and ultimately earned the victory to improve to 2-1 on the season. The right-hander allowed just one hit over 3.0 innings of relief while striking out four. Austin Orewiler tossed the final two scoreless frames to finish the game on the hill for the visitors.
Missoula will be represented by six players at the inaugural Pioneer League vs. Northwest League All-Star game on Tuesday. First pitch for the event, which will be held at Avista Stadium in Spokane, Wash., is scheduled for 8:05 pm MT. All the action can be heard on 102.9 ESPN Radio for Missoula, and the game will be televised on a tape-delay on ROOT Sports following the Mariners game. Isan Diaz (SS) and Austin Byler (1B) will start for the PBL All-Stars, while catcher Luke Lowery and pitchers Cameron Smith, Yefrey Ramirez and Dan Savas will all be available.
