Great Falls Voyagers News Release
GREAT FALLS, Mont. - The Great Falls Voyagers claimed a last at-bat win for the second consecutive night, scoring two in the eighth to knock off the Helena Brewers 6-4 Saturday night at Centene Stadium.
With the game tied 4-4 and the go-ahead run at second in the form of Johan Cruz, Antonio Rodriguez stepped up and smashed a triple to straightaway center off Bubba Blau (2-4) to give the Voyagers (4-1, 21-20) the lead. Jake Gatewood's relay throw on the play sailed high and into the Great Falls dugout, allowing Rodriguez to score as well.
After tossing a scoreless eighth, Danny Dopico (2-2) returned to the hill for the ninth, striking out the side to slam the door on the Brewers (1-4, 17-24), and give Great Falls their eighth straight win over Helena.
Great Falls grabbed the lead in the first Saturday, as Johan Cruz homered to put the home team on top early. The Voyagers then doubled their lead in the third, as Landon Lassiter brought Grant Massey home with a single.
Helena came back to tie it in the fifth, taking advantage of two Voyager errors. The first of the two errors pushed across the Brewers first tally of the night, while a Steven Karkenny single leveled the score.
The Voyagers answered with a pair in their half of the fifth. With two down, Dante Flores laced a two-run double to left, putting Great Falls back into the lead.
The Brewers answered again in the seventh, as a wild pitch and run-producing single from Troy Stokes once again tied things up.
The win is the Voyagers third straight, tying their longest winning streak of the season. Great Falls also continues their dominance over Helena, winning their eighth straight against the Brewers this season.
The Voyagers and Brewers wrap-up their four-game set Sunday afternoon at Centene Stadium. Great Falls will send left-hander Zack Erwin (2-0, 0.98) to the mound, while Helena will counter with a southpaw of their own in Jake Drossner (1-1, 4.29). First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., and coverage will begin at 12:45 on 1400 AM KXGF and gfvoyagers.com.
