WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens, are excited to announce that a 47th former Nailer/Thunderbird has made his National Hockey League debut. Philip Samuelsson reached the NHL on Monday night, as the Penguins played host to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Samuelsson, 22, is in the midst of his third professional season, after spending two years at Boston College, which included a National Championship as a freshman in 2010. During the 2011-12 season, Philip appeared in five regular season games and three postseason contests with the Nailers, picking up one goal, one assist, two points, and 11 penalty minutes. He has also added three assists and 26 penalty minutes in 25 playoff games, helping the Penguins to the Eastern Conference Semi-Final and Final respectively, in his two years.
On Monday, Samuelsson logged 15:43 of ice time, receiving 22 shifts, as Pittsburgh knocked off Toronto, 3-1.
Philip Samuelsson becomes the 47th Nailer/Thunderbird to reach the NHL and third this season, joining Zach Sill and Alex Grant.
