Andrew Clark Named Sher-Wood ECHL Player of the Week
December 17, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Stockton Thunder News Release
Stockton, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder (@StocktonThunder) are pleased to announced that forward Andrew Clark has been named the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for his performance during the week of December 9-15th.
Clark, 25, posted 4 goals and 4 assists for a total of 8 points during the Thunder's two games this past week. The Brandon, Manitoba native had 2 goals and 1 assist as the Thunder fell to the San Francisco Bulls in a shootout on Saturday night, and followed that up with a 5-point performance in a 6-5 Thunder victory over the Bakersfield Condors on Sunday.
"He's been great in the last couple of games in terms of producing when we needed it," said Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Rich Kromm. "In those games, we needed some bounce back in a lot of situations and his line provided that for us. Andrew has been great all year, he plays every situation, competes hard, and he's a pretty complete player for us."
Clark's 8-point weekend vaulted him into the team lead in all three major scoring categories with 26 points from 10 goals and 16 assists in 24 games this season. He also leads the Thunder in shots on goal with 77 and multi-goal games with three this year.
Against San Francisco, Clark scored twice in the second period to help the Thunder build a 4-1 lead and assisted on defenseman Mike Dalhuisen's late tying goal before the team ultimately fell to the Bulls, 6-5 in a shootout. The next day, Clark's fine form carried over as he made it back-to-back multi-goal games. He opened the scoring just 1:22 into the first period against Bakersfield and also tied the game with 6:39 left in the third before Corey Trivino's late winner.
Those 2 goals combined with his 3 assists on the day tied Clark for most points scored by an ECHL player in a single game this season. Alaska's Peter Sivak also had 5 points in a game earlier this year on November 1st. To add to his accolades Clark also leads the league in total points and assists among rookie players.
Clark signed with the Thunder late last season on March 17, 2013 after a four-year career at Acadia University playing in the CIS. He registered 5 points in 4 regular season games and added 21 points in 22 playoff games as the Thunder reached the Kelly Cup Final for the first time in franchise history.
