Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Las Vegas - Last-second heroics lifted the Ontario Reign over the Las Vegas Wranglers in overtime tonight, taking the 11th annual Midnight Game with a final score of 5-4 in front of 3,823 fans.
Ontario drew first blood as defenseman Cody Sol scored at the 13:46 mark of the first period. Wranglers center Chris Francis was quick to respond, and it was a 1-1 game just over a minute later. The tie game was broken by Wranglers center John Armstrong just 1:11 into the second, and his first goal of the season made it a 2-1 game for the home team. Wranglers left wing Adam Hughesman backed up the lead with a power play goal late in the second, but Reign forward Kyle Kraemer would post his own power play goal to make it a 3-2 game for Las Vegas after 40 minutes.
Reign center Jake Hauswirth knotted the game 3-3 12 minutes into the third, but Armstrong's second goal of the night came with 1:15 left in regulation, giving the Wranglers the 4-3 lead. With seven seconds left in the game, Reign forward Matt White beat Wranglers goalie Travis Fullerton to tie the game 4-4. Overtime was forced, but it only took 38 seconds for Reign defenseman Matt Register to secure the game-winning goal. Ontario took the 5-4 overtime win, giving Las Vegas a 6-4-1-2 overall record when playing midnight games. In the loss, Fullerton made a total of 50 saves.
The Wranglers next face the Bakersfield Condors in California on Thursday, Dec. 26. The team then comes right back home for two games against the Idaho Steelheads on Friday, Dec. 27, and Saturday, Dec. 28, with both games at 7:05 pm.
