BOWIE, Md. - Adrian Sampson returned to normalcy on Wednesday night in Bowie as he allowed one run over six innings to lead the Curve by Bowie, 5-1, to end the team's five-game losing streak. Sampson (6-5) held a lead from the get-go on Wednesday thanks to a pair of first-inning homers from the offense.

Alen Hanson started the game by blasting his seventh home run of the season and it had the Curve leading, 1-0. It was the second time this year Hanson led off the game with a homer and the third time overall the Curve have done it in 2014. Just three batters later, Matt Curry followed Hanson's lead and also smoked a homer to right off Baysox starter Matt Bischoff (2-3) to open up a 2-0 lead.

That'd be enough for Sampson, who didn't allow his run in the game until the sixth. Meanwhile, his offense added two more runs in the second thanks to a Willy Garcia triple to score Keon Broxton. With Garcia on at third, Andy Vasquez drove him home to make it, 4-0.

Altoona's fifth and final run came in the fifth when Curry drove home his second run of the contest with a RBI single to score Drew Maggi, who'd walked and stolen a pair of bases.

Sampson finished six innings and allowed his only run in the sixth inning. He whiffed four and did not walk a batter for his 10th quality start of the 2014 campaign, which leads the staff. Jason Townsend tossed two scoreless innings before Kenn Kasparek pitched the ninth in a non-save situation to seal the victory.

Elias Diaz had three more hits and was 3-for-5 to run his modest hit streak to four games and run his average to .324. He now has multi-hit games in each of the first three games of this series. Maggi saw his eight-game hit streak come to a close while Jarek Cunningham also had his five-game streak end with a 0-for-5 day.

The Curve (30-54) will aim for the split with Bowie (46-39) in the series finale at 6:35 p.m. Thursday night. LHP Zack Dodson (2-4, 4.43) takes the ball in the series finale on Thursday night for the Curve while LHP Jake Pettit (4-6, 6.72) tosses for the Baysox.

Airtime on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
