Akron RubberDucks News Release

(Erie, Pa.) Entering play on Wednesday night, the Akron RubberDucks had won three straight games, and the Erie SeaWolves had lost three straight. Thanks to Erie slugger Steven Moya, both streaks came to an end.

Moya, one of the EL's premier power-hitters, drilled an RBI double during a four-run first inning, and later added a two-run homer to lead the SeaWolves to a 6-4 victory at Jerry Uht Park.

Although the loss stopped Akron's brief win streak, it didn't damage the RubberDucks in the standings. First-place Richmond lost at Harrisburg, 6-2, so the RubberDucks (49-36) remain just a half-game out of first place in the EL West.

The SeaWolves batted around in the first inning against Akron starter Cody Anderson (2-8) and took a 4-0 lead. After Moya's RBI double, catcher Ramon Cabrera drove in two runs with a single, and Corey Jones capped the scoring with an RBI single. Anderson settled down after the first and made it through five innings, but suffered his fifth consecutive loss.

He allowed nine hits, walked one and struck out four.

Akron battled back with two runs in the second inning off Wilsen Palacios (5-4), and pulled to within 4-3, on Bryan LaHair's solo homer in the sixth, but Moya added a pair of insurance runs with a long homer to right in the seventh off righthander Jordan Cooper. It was Moya's 18th of the year, good for second in the EL.

After Anthony Gallas stroked his second double of the night to drive in Adam Abraham in the eighth, Erie closer Jose Valdez entered the game and recorded the final five outs in order to earn his 11th save.

Gallas was 2-4, and extended his hitting streak to six games. Ollie Linton also had a pair of hits, and has also hit in six straight. Jordan Smith was 1-3, with a sacrifice fly and has hit in five straight games. Shortstop Francisco Lindor was a late addition to the Akron lineup. It was Lindor's first game since being struck in the face by a bad-hop grounder at Canal Park a week ago. He was 0-3 with a walk.

The RubberDucks and SeaWolves (35-47) will play the final game of the series Thursday night at 7:05. RHP Duke von Schamann (3-2, 3.69) will oppose Erie RHP Jeff Ferrell (5-6, 5.05). The game will be broadcast on WARF 1350 AM and www.AkronRubberDucks.com.
