New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - The Rock Cats defeated the Binghamton Mets by the score of 9-6 on Tuesday evening at New Britain Stadium.

The home club wasted no time in their early at-bats, sending eight to the plate in the bottom of the first, collecting five runs on five hits. New Britain also scored three in the bottom of the fourth and one in the sixth.

B-Mets starter RHP Hansel Robles was hit around the ballpark over his three innings of work, starting with a one-out solo home run from LF Eddie Rosario in the bottom of the first. CF Aaron Hicks chipped in with an RBI single and SS Tony Thomas laced a two-run double out to left-center. 2B Brad Boyer's sacrifice fly that scored Thomas capped the five run frame.

Binghamton 3B Dustin Lawley led off the second with a solo home run off of Rock Cats starter RHP Jason Wheeler, putting the Mets affiliate on the scoreboard. Lawley cracked his second homer of the night two innings later to make it a 5-2 contest.

New Britain continued the offense in the bottom of the fourth and this time it was RF Mike Kvasnicka who got into the mix. After Boyer led off the inning with a base hit, Kvasnicka launched his sixth longball of the season high over the wall in right field. RHP Ryan Fraser replaced Robles once the bases were loaded with no outs and induced a 6-4-3 double play, allowing C Matt Koch to score from third, keeping the damage down to a single run and giving the Cats an 8-2 lead.

The B-Mets picked up a run in the top of the sixth on an RBI triple from 1B Jayce Boyd, scoring DH Brian Burgamy who walked earlier in the inning.

Rock Cats 1B Reynaldo Rodriguez continued to swing a hot bat in the bottom of the sixth, slamming an RBI double out to left-center to score Rosario and put New Britain ahead 9-3.

Binghamton would not go down without a fight, picking up two more runs in the top of the eighth off of Rock Cats reliever RHP Mark Hamburger. After 2B Dilson Herrera led off the inning with a double down the left field line, Burgamy singled him home on a base hit out to right. Burgamy then stole second and scored on a single from CF Brandon Nimmo, pulling the Mets within four. The visitors scored once more in the ninth but it would not be enough to overcome the early lead established by New Britain.

Wheeler put together another impressive outing at home, working six innings and allowing three runs on five hits. The big righthander walked two and struck out five en route to his second win at the Double-A level (2-1).

Robles saw his record drop to 5-6 in the loss, responsible for all eight runs that scored in his three innings of work. He also walked two and struck out none.

New Britain plays the third game of a four game series on Wednesday evening starting at 7:05 p.m. RHP Tyler Duffey will be on the hill for the Rock Cats while visiting Binghamton throws out RHP Tyler Pill.
