Akron RubberDucks News Release

(Erie, Pa.) July 1, 2014 - The calendar may have turned over to a new month, but it was the same-old, same-old for the Erie SeaWolves on Tuesday night, as the Akron RubberDucks cruised to a 10-3 win at Jerry Uht Park.

One night after opening the series with a 9-1 victory on 13 hits, the RubberDucks rolled out a blistering, 16-hit attack on Tuesday, lead by the four-hit, three-RBI performance of Anthony Gallas, to pick up their second straight win over the SeaWolves (34-47) and third straight overall.

The RubberDucks (49-35) have registered double-figure hit totals in four straight games. The team average now stands at .272, which ranks fourth in the EL.

Despite the offensive prowess, Akron remains a half-game behind Richmond in the EL West. The Flying Squirrels slipped by Harrisburg, 3-2, on Tuesday night.

Gallas snapped a scoreless tie with a two-out, line-drive homer to right off Kyle Ryan (5-8) in the fourth inning. It was his second hit of the night, and his fourth homer in just 18 games with Akron. It opened the door for a five-run inning. Jordan Smith chipped in an RBI single, and Jake Lowery added the haymaker with a three-run homer to make it 5-0. It was Lowery's second of the year.

After extending the lead to 7-0 in the fifth on a double by Erik Gonzalez and another RBI single by Gallas, the RubberDucks made it 10-0 by tacking on three more in the seventh, including an RBI triple by-you guessed it-Gallas.

Already 4-4, Gallas came back to the plate in the eighth looking for the cycle, but bounced into a 5-4-3 double play to finish 4-5 on the night. He raised his average to .397. Lowery picked up an RBI single in the seventh to finish with four RBI.

For the second straight night, the RubberDucks paired a strong offensive attack with solid starting pitching. Righthander Gabriel Arias (6-2) worked the first 6 2/3 innings, allowing seven hits and just one run. He walked two ans fanned none.

The only run he gave scored after he left the game. Arias has not suffered an EL loss since April 25th .

The RubberDucks and SeaWolves (34-46) will play game three of the series Wednesday night at 7:05. RHP Cody Anderson (2-7, 5.15) will oppose Erie RHP Wilsen Palacios (4-4, 5.43). The game will be broadcast on WARF 1350 AM and www.AkronRubberDucks.com.

The Akron RubberDucks are the Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. The 2014 season is the 18th since moving to Canal Park and the first as the RubberDucks.
