Baysox Get Hits, Not Runs in Loss

Bowie, Md. - Altoona (30-54) jumped out to an early lead and the Baysox (46-39) were never able to catch up in a 5-1 loss to the Curve Wednesday evening. The Baysox recorded 10 hits, but only managed to score one run despite equaling the Curve in hits.

Altoona got off to a quick start in the top of the first inning against Baysox starter Matt Bischoff. Alen Hanson led off the game with a solo home run to right field and Matt Curry followed with a two-out solo home run to right field to give the Curve a 2-0 lead. Altoona has hit seven home runs in the first three games of the series with Bowie.

The Curve kept the runs coming in the top of the second inning. Keon Broxton drew a lead off walk and Willy Garcia followed with a triple to center field that plated Broxton. Garcia came around to score on an Andy Vasquez groundout to give Altoona a 4-0 lead.

Altoona extended the lead in the top of the fifth inning against Baysox reliever Juan Morillo. Drew Maggi drew a lead off walk and stole second and third base before scoring on a Curry groundout to make the score 5-0.

The Baysox got on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning against Altoona starter Adrian Sampson. K.D. Kang hit a lead off single to center field and moved to second base on a Chris Marrero groundout before scoring on a two-out David Adams single to right field to make the score 5-1.

Bischoff pitched two and two-thirds innings and allowed four runs on four hits while striking out one and walking one in the loss. Morillo pitched two and one-third innings and allowed one run on three while striking out three and walking two. Baysox reliever Steve Hensley pitched two scoreless innings, allowing one hit while striking out one and walking one. Reliever Mychal Givens pitched the final two innings, allowing two hits while walking two and striking out three.

Sampson picked up the win for Altoona, throwing six innings and allowing one run on eight hits while striking out four.

LHP Jake Pettit (4-6, 6.72) takes the mound for the Baysox Thursday as the team plays the final game in a four game home series against the Altoona Curve. He will be opposed by LHP Zack Dodson (2-4, 4.43).

The Baysox are home through Thursday, July 3 for a four-game home series against the Altoona Curve. Promotional Highlights include the Red, White & Boom Independence Day Celebration Thursday, July 3 at 6:35 p.m.
