Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs fell behind early on Wednesday and could not recover, losing 9-1 to the Wichita Wingnuts. Lincoln drops to 18-13 on the second half of the season.

Wichita scored four runs in the top of the first inning, taking a lead they would never relinquish. The first three batters of the game singled against Lincoln starter Zac Cline (6-3), plating the game's first run. One out later, a ground-rule double made it 2-0 and put runners at second and third. Cline struck out the next man, and then induced what appeared to be an inning-ending groundball, but a double error allowed two more runs to score.

Wingnuts starter Richard Salazar (3-0), who's normally a reliever, allowed just one hit to Lincoln over five innings to earn the win. The Saltdogs loaded the bases with one out in the first inning but did not score, and Salazar was never really threatened again. Lincoln did plate a run in the sixth against the Wichita bullpen, on an RBI single by Rafael Alvarez, but the Wingnuts put the game out of reach by scoring five runs in the top of the eighth.

Gavin Dickey had the only multi-hit night for the Saltdogs, going 2-for-4, as Lincoln ended the night with seven hits overall. Matt Petrusek pitched a scoreless ninth for Lincoln, lowering his ERA to 0.79.

The Saltdogs go for the spilt of the four-game series Thursday night at 7:05. Righty Jim Paduch will make the start for Lincoln.

The current Saltdogs homestand runs through August 13. For more team and ticket information, go to www.saltdogs.com.
