El Paso Diablos News Release
Sioux City, IA - El Paso came up short in their effort to sweep their road series with the Sioux City Explorers, falling 7-4 on Wednesday night at Lewis and Clark Park. El Paso still manages to go 3-3 on the road trip, but also missed out on a chance to pull their record even in the second half.
El Paso had early success, but was never able to pull away before the Explorers took the lead in the middle innings. El Paso took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Juan Camacho brought in Jorge Alvarez, but an Alex Llanos home run in the bottom half of the inning evened the game at 1-1. El Paso would take the lead back the very next inning when Eddy Rodriguez hit his second home run in as many days, but once again the X's tied the game in the third inning when they put three straight hits together with two outs. Sioux City would take the lead by scoring two in the fifth inning, but Juan Camacho came right back to torment his former team one more time, by hitting his second home run of the series which cut the lead to 4-3. It would be all Sioux City from then on as they would score one more run in the sixth inning and added two runs in the seventh inning.
After the early stages of the game the Diablos could never do much against X's starter Ryan Harris (2-1) who pitched eight innings allowing only three runs on seven hits. El Paso did very little down the stretch as Sioux City showed off some very fine defense to prevent any rallies. The Diablos offense was led by Camacho and Rodriguez who both ended the night with two hits and a home run.
El Paso goes back home in a big series against the top team in the South Division, Pensacola. Game one is on Friday night at 7:05 with Garvis Romero (3-2, 4.77) making the start for El Paso. Friday night fireworks will follow the game and fans can follow along by listening online at www.diablos.com .
