Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs filled a hole at the back of their bullpen Friday, acquiring closer Chris Thompson from the El Paso Diablos in exchange for right-handed pitcher Mike Cervera.

Thompson, a former 21st-round draft pick of the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2004, appeared in 14 games for El Paso this season, recording ten saves, an 0-1 record and a 3.95 ERA. The righty didn't allow an earned run in any of his first six outings, saving all six games for the Diablos, and has given up earned runs in his three of his appearances overall. Chris has reached the Class AAA level twice in his career, seeing time at Tucson in 2005 and New Orleans in 2006. He saved 11 games for Pensacola in 2007, and earned three saves in nine appearances for El Paso in 2008.

Cervera was acquired by Lincoln in an offseason trade with Sussex of the Can-Am League, but never appeared in a game with the Saltdogs. He has spent the entire season on the inactive list. Cervera pitched for El Paso in 2007 and 2008, and saved 13 games for the Diablos last season.

The Saltdogs return home from a week-long road trip on Tuesday, June 23, when they host the El Paso Diablos. For more team and ticket information, go to www.saltdogs.com.
