Pensacola Pelicans News Release

The Pensacola Pelicans have won their third straight, defeating Lincoln 8-3. Randy Beam picked up the victory for the Pels, who took the lead in the third inning, and never looked back.

The Saltdogs scored first with one run in both the second and third innings. However, the Pelicans came from behind to take the lead and then some, winning by five. In the bottom of the third, Francisco Leandro reached on a fielder's choice. Jimmy Mojica followed with a single, and Antoin Gray hit his 28th RBI with a base hit. After Luis Guance walked, Marcos Rodriguez hit his second single of the night, a two-RBI knock that brought in Mojica and Gray, and the Pels were on top 3-2.

The Pelicans added another run in the fourth, when Chase Burch, who ended the evening 3-4, doubled. Justin Humphries hit him in on a single, and the Pelicans led by two.

In the fifth inning the Pelicans added two more runs. Jimmy Mojica led off with a single, and then stole his team-leading 13th base of the year. The throw to second went into the outfield, and Mojica trotted to third. Luis Guance walked, and the Marcos Rodriguez hit his third RBI of the night, lifting a sacrifice fly to left that scored Mojica. Chase Burch followed with an RBI single down the right field line that plated Guance; 6-2 Pensacola after five innings.

In the top of the sixth, Lincoln added a run, but the Pelicans slammed the door in the bottom frame, scoring two more runs. With Josh Giles pitching the bottom of the sixth, Justin Humphries led off with a double, then moved to third on a passed ball. Dallas Christison walked and stole second, but the throw eluded the fielder, and Humphries came home on the play. Antoin Gray would collect his 29th RBI on a single that brought Christison home, and the 8-3 score would hold until the end of the game.

Randy Beam pitched six innings to win the game and even his record at 3-3. He struck out three and allowed three earned runs. Brent Solich pitched a no-hit seventh and eighth, striking out two. Aaron Jackson struck out two in retiring the final three batters in order to secure the Pelicans victory.
