
Pelicans Join in Celebrating Pensacola's 450th Anniversary

Pensacola, FL - The Pensacola Pelicans are doing their part to celebrate Pensacola's 450 years of history. At the next home game at Jim Spooner Field at Pelican Park, fans will see a 9 foot circle of the 450th logo painted on the turf behind home plate. In addition, each player will be paying tribute to this celebratory year with a patch of the logo displayed on their home jerseys.
Celebrate Pensacola is a non-profit organization, whose purpose is to educate the public of the 450th anniversary of Spanish Explorer, Don Tristan de Luna's discovery of what is now Pensacola, FL in 1559.
"We feel privileged to partner with Celebrate Pensacola on this exciting year for our town," said Pelicans Assistant General Manager, Jason Libbert. "Pensacola is packed with history and we are happy to be part of it."
Celebrate Pensacola has hosted many events throughout the year, including a visit by King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia of Spain, a visit from the world's third largest tall ship, the Juan Sebastian de Elcano, as well as many other events. The events will end on August 15, 2009 with a celebration of the landing of Don Tristan de Luna.
The Pelicans will return home to take on the Lincoln Saltdogs on Friday, June 19th. Game time is at 6:35 p.m. Tickets are affordable, beginning at only $7 and are available by calling 850-934-8444, visiting www.pensacolapelicans.com or visiting any Pensacola area Circle K locations.
Friday is Family Campout Night. For only $12, campers receive a ticket to the game, a hot dog, Pepsi, a post-game movie and camp out on the Pelicans' outfield. Saturday is the 2nd annual Bride Bash. Brides-to-be will compete for a grand prize of a rehearsal dinner from the sponsor of the night, Skopelos, valued at $2,000. Brides can register at www.pensacolapelicans.com. Sunday is Father's Day. Father's can come at 4:15 p.m. and take batting practice with their children. Free hair cuts and massages will also be set up for fathers. You do not want to miss The Famous San Diego Chicken make his appearance at Pelican Park on Tuesday, June 23rd. His crazy antics will surely make it a memorable night for all.
