Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
PENSACOLA, FL - The Lincoln Saltdogs couldn't hold an early lead on the road, losing an 8-3 decision to the Pensacola Pelicans at Pelican Park. Lincoln drops to 11-22 on the season.
Lincoln had an early 2-0 lead, on a second-inning RBI double by Deacon Burns and a third-inning solo home run by Steve Alexander, but Pensacola roared back with a three-run bottom of the third inning against Saltdogs starter Jarrett Gardner (4-3). The Pelicans added a run in the fourth and two in the fifth to make it 6-2, and although Burns hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth to pull Lincoln within three, Pensacola put the contest out of reach with their final two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Alexander's home run was his seventh of the year, and his first since May 30. Burns finished 1-for-3 with two RBI, while Pichi Balet and Shea McFeely each had two hits apiece.
The two teams play game two of their three-game series Saturday night at 6:05pm. Righty Brian Campbell is scheduled to come off the disabled list and make the start for Lincoln.
