Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs made several roster moves just before the league roster deadline Thursday night, acquiring pitcher Gregorio Martinez and outfielder Argelis Nuñez from Laredo of the United League in exchange for two players to be named later. To make room for the new acquisitions on the roster, Lincoln placed pitcher Daryl Arreola on the disabled list, and traded outfielder Norm Hutchins to Sioux City for a player to be named later.

Martinez, a right-hander from the Dominican Republic, had been the ace of Laredo's staff. He went 4-6 with a 3.86 ERA for the Broncos, often pitching with very little run support. The former San Francisco Giants farmhand struck out 72 batters in 93.1 innings pitched while walking only 44, and has held opponents to a .257 batting average over the course of his career.

Nuñez, who also hails from the Dominican Republic, was in the midst of a career season with Laredo. The right-handed batter hit .358 in 64 games, tying a career high with 13 home runs and driving in a career-best 58. He also displayed a great eye at the plate, striking out just 40 times and drawing 34 walks. The former Arizona Diamondbacks prospect has seen 30 of his 86 hits this season go for extra bases.

Hutchins, who was acquired by Lincoln five days ago in a trade with Chico of the Golden League, hit .313 with a home run and three RBI in four games for the Saltdogs. Arreola, a right-hander, is 1-3 with a 6.02 ERA in his second season for Lincoln.

American Association teams had until 10:59pm Central Time on Thursday to set their final rosters for the 2009 season. Lincoln enters play on Friday three games ahead of St. Paul in the North Division, with ten games left to play.

The current Lincoln Saltdogs homestand runs through August 23. For more team and ticket information, go to www.saltdogs.com.
