St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN (August 20, 2009) - The St. Paul Saints hold an American Association record they hope gets broken: most homers allowed in a season at 89. The Sioux Falls Canaries are close to surpassing that mark and the Saints helped them get closer, hitting three homers on Thursday night en route to an 8-3 victory at Midway Stadium in front of 5,512.

In the first inning Josh Alley singled to center and Brent Krause followed with a rocket shot over the left-center field wall, his 10th of the season, giving the Saints a 2-0 lead.

In the third Jason Cooper tied Krause with his 10th homer of the season with a solo shot over the right field wall giving the Saints a 3-0 lead.

The Saints finished their home run barrage when Jacob Butler hit his team leading 16th. With one out in the sixth Butler crushed one over the left-center field wall for a 4-0 lead. Jeff Eure and Andrew Schmiesing followed that up with back-to-back singles and Eure would score on an RBI fielder's choice from Anthony Norman to make it 5-0.

Saints starter Tom Buske did the rest. He shut down the Canaries all night long hurling 7.0 innings allowing one run on six hits while striking out four to earn his fourth victory of the season.

Eure finished the night 3-4 with a run scored while Jacob Butler was 2-4 with a double, homer, two RBI and a run scored.

The Saints remained 3.0 games behind the Lincoln Saltdogs with 10 games to go by virtue of the Saltdogs 7-6 win over the Grand Prairie AirHogs. The Saints will now travel to Haymarket Park for a three game showdown against the Saltdogs beginning on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. The Saints send RHP Mitch Wylie (7-6, 4.33) to the mound against Saltdogs RHP Jarrett Gardner (9-4, 4.19). The game can be heard live on Relevant Radio 1330.
