
Cats complete sweep with 15-9 win

El Paso - The Cats used a club-record 24 hits on Wednesday night for a 15-9 victory against the Diablos, completing a three-game sweep at Cohen Stadium.
Down 1-0 in the second, the Cats took the lead on an RBI double by Kelley Gulledge and an RBI single by Kevin Thompson.
They made it 3-1 in the third on a two-out RBI double by Michael Bell. El Paso narrowed the lead to 3-2 in the third as a run scored on a double play. Fort Worth scored three times in the fourth for a 6-2 advantage. In that inning, the Cats strung together five straight singles include RBI hits by Cameron Blair, Pat O'Sullivan and John Allen.
The Diablos cut the lead to 7-6 in the fifth inning as they scored three times on an RBI single by Jonathan Reynoso, an RBI double by Juan Camacho and a run-scoring single by Gerardo Verastegui.
But the Cats added two runs in the sixth and a run in the seventh for a 10-7 lead. The Diablos scored twice in the eighth to pull to within a run again at 10-9, but the Cats scored five times in the ninth for a 15-9 lead.
Gulledge had three doubles and four RBIs in the game. Fryer added three hits and three runs scored. Allen had four hits and three RBIs. O'Sullivan also contributed three hits and three runs batted in.
Nat Harris (5-6) went five innings and allowed five earned runs on 10 hits to notch his fifth win of the season. El Paso starter Garvis Romero (3-3) was dealt the loss as he gave up seven runs, five earned on 12 hits in 4 1/3 innings of work.
There was a scare in the bottom of the sixth as El Paso center fielder Kennard Bibbs was struck by a pickoff throw at first base and had leave the game in an ambulance. Initial reports Bibbs was okay and was taken to the hospital as a precautionary matter.
The Cats open the final six-game home stand of the regular season with three against Shreveport-Bossier beginning on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. Joel Kirsten goes for the Cats in the opener.
