El Paso Diablos News Release
El Paso, TX - El Paso tried to keep up with the Fort Worth offense, but in the end they fell short, losing 15-9 at Cohen Stadium on Wednesday night. It ends a home stand in which El Paso goes 0-6, and now has lost seven straight games. The Cats now hold an 11-5 record against El Paso this season.
The Cats scored early and often against El Paso as they pounded the Diablos pitching staff for a season high 24 hits, which is also the most hits the Diablos have allowed this season. They scored in every inning except for two. Garvis Romero (3-3) started and got roughed up, allowing seven runs in just 4 1/3. The final eight runs were charged to the bull pen that used four different pitchers over the final five innings.
El Paso had 15 hits of their own, well short of the Cat's total, but did their best to keep up with Fort Worth. Jonathan Reynoso, in his second game with El Paso, put on a great show, going 4-5 with two doubles and three RBI. He was given help by Hector Bernal who went 2-4 with a double, triple, and two RBI. Kennard Bibbs, Arnoldo Ponce, and Gerardo Verastegui all had two hit games as well.
The Diablos also had another scary sight as their center fielder, Kennard Bibbs, was struck in the head with a pick-off throw at first. He was taken off on a stretcher, and taken to the hospital. He was checked out and released before the game was over.
El Paso hits the road for a tough six game road trip that starts in Pensacola on Friday night. Josh Neitz (5-3, 4.93), who has been roughed up this season by the Pelicans, will look for a measure of revenge against them. First pitch is slated for 5:35 and fans can listen along on ESPN radio 1380 or online at www.diablos.com.
