
Saints Sign RHP Dylan Thomas

ST. PAUL, MN - After allowing 38 runs in a four game series to the Wichita Wingnuts, the St. Paul Saints needed to shake something up with their pitching. On Monday they did that by signing St. Thomas University right-hander Dylan Thomas.
Thomas is one of the most decorated pitchers in Tommies history becoming the first player ever to win the MIAC Mike Augustin Pitcher of the Year Award more than once, earning the honor in both 2012 and 2013. He also earned All-Conference, All-Region and All-American honors.
In 2013 Thomas went 7-2 with a 2.11 ERA and two saves in 13 games (8 starts) with three complete games and one shutout. In 55.1 innings pitched he walked nine and struck out 60 while opponents hit .243 against him. He was named MIAC Pitcher of the Year, All-MIAC First Team, Midwest Pitcher of the Year honors from d3baseball.com, First Team All-Region and Third Team All-American.
Thomas began his college career at Des Moines (Iowa) Area Community College before arriving at St. Thomas. During his junior season with the Tommies he was 8-2 with a 2.25 ERA and two saves, with five complete games, two shutouts in 76.0 innings pitched. He struck out 76 and held opponents to a .225 batting average. He was named MIAC All-Conference First Team as well conference Pitcher-of-the-Year, Most Valuable Player of the Midwestern Regional Tournament, American Baseball Coaches' Association (ABCA) and d3baseball.com named him to their All-Region First Team. Additionally, he garnered All-American honors. The ABCA further honored Thomas as the Midwestern Region Player-of-the-Year. He was also selected to the 2012 NCAA Division III College World Series All-Tournament Team.
In order to make room for Thomas on the roster the Saints released left-handed pitcher Connor Whalen. He was 1-0 with a 6.75 ERA in 14 games.
The Saints roster stands at the league maximum 22 players, 10 pitchers and 12 position players.
