Link Delivers Complete Game Win

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts (20-10) defeated the Gary SouthShore RailCats (14-14) 8-2 at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Monday night.

Jon Link threw the first complete game of his nine-year professional career, allowing two earned runs on five hits over nine innings. Link walked two and struck out a season-high nine batters. Link threw just 108 pitches and recorded consecutive out streaks of 11 and nine batters en route to the win. It was the first nine-inning complete game for a Wingnuts' starter since July 10th, 2011.

Wichita manufactured two runs in the bottom of the second to take a 2-0 lead. Cole Armstrong and Abel Nieves singled on back-to-back line drives to center field to open the inning. David Amberson reached on a force play at second and then stole second base to put runners on second and third with one out. Jared McDonald drove in Nieves with a groundout to shorstop. Ryan Khoury made it 2-0 with a two-out, line drive single to right.

John Rodriguez hit a long, solo home run to center field leading off the bottom of the third to make it 3-0.

The RailCats scored their only runs in the top of the sixth. A Chase Tucker single and walks to Adam Klein and Ryan Babineau helped Gary SouthShore load the bases with two outs. Danny Pulfer singled to shallow right to drive in Tucker and Klein.

The Wingnuts broke the game open with a five-run bottom of the seventh. Khoury drew a one-out walk and advanced to second when Jake Kahaulelio singled to center. Rodriguez followed with a two-run double down the right field line. After C.J. Ziegler walked, Brent Clevlen crushed a three-run home run over the video board in left-center that extended Wichita's lead to 8-2.

RailCats' starter Will Krout took the loss, allowing seven earned runs on 10 hits in six and one-third innings. Krout walked three and struck out six.

David Amberson's 16-game hitting streak came to an end. Khoury, Rodriguez, and Clevlen all had multi-hit games.

The Wingnuts and RailCats play a day-night double header on Tuesday with games at 11:05 a.m. and 7:05 p.m. Chris Smith faces left-hander Alain Quijano in the opener, while Anthony Capra takes on right-hander Billy Spottiswood in the nightcap.
