Laredo, TX - The Laredo Lemurs (19-12) pluck the feathers of the Sioux Falls Canaries (13-18) with a 13-3 win in their first meeting at Uni-Trade Stadium on Monday night.
The Lemurs opened up the bottom of the first by getting a Jimmy Mojica base hit. Then John Allen walked with one out to put runner at first and second. During Sawyer Carroll's at bat, Mojica and Allen ran on a double steal with both runners reaching safely. Now with runners at second and third, Carroll would fly right to bring in Mojica from third for a sac-fly and a RBI and a 1-0 Lemurs lead. Palmer Karr Jr. brought in Allen from third as he reached on an error to make it 2-0 Lemurs.
The Lemurs busted the game open in the third, scoring four runs on two hits, with two walks, and a hit batter mixed in for a 6-2 Lemurs lead.
Brain Peterson would put the game out of reach in fifth as he came to the plate with two runners on and belted a homerun over the left field wall to make it 9-3 Lemurs.
Three more runs scored in the sixth for the Lemurs and John Allen would add a solo homerun in the seventh to make it 13-3 in a runaway win for the Lemurs.
On the day Allen picked up three base hits, including the homerun to bring him one hit closer of tying the all-time hit record in the American Association of 670 set by Bryan Fryer.
Ryan Sasaki (2-2) started the game and earned the win for the Lemurs going five complete, giving up three runs, on four hits, with four walks, and a strikeout.
Austin Brough (0-3) took the loss for the Canaries as he went six, giving up 12 runs, on 14 hits, with five walks, and two strikeouts.
The Laredo Lemurs will be at Uni-Trade Stadium through Wednesday, June 19as they face off against the Sioux Falls Canaries.
