El Paso Heats Up Against Laredo

Laredo, TX - The El Paso Diablos (7-22) put together an 11 hit attack to beat the Laredo Lemurs (18-12) 11-3 Sunday night at Uni-Trade Stadium.

The Diablos struck in the second inning with two runs after leadoff man Brian Joynt singled. Murray Watts followed with a walk, and then Oscar Mesa put down a sac bunt to move the runners to second and third. Edgar Corcino then hit a sac-fly to center to drive in the first run of the game. Thomas McAlpine chipped in and picked up a double to drive in Watts from second base and give the Diablos a 2-0 lead in the second.

The Diablos would bat around in the third, scoring four runs, on four hits, with a walk, and a hit batter mixed in. Lemurs starting pitcher Leonard Giammanco was pulled with two outs in the inning and was replaced by Edwin Walker who would finish out the game on the mound for the Lemurs

Murray Watts put the game out of reach with a three run homerun in the seventh to make the score 9-2 Diablos.

Giammanco (1-3) finished the night throwing two and two thirds, giving up six runs, on seven hits, with two walks, and a strikeout, while taking the loss.

Marshall Schular(1-0) picked up the win out of the bullpen for the Diablos as he threw two and two thirds, without giving up a hit or a run, with two walks, and a strikeout.

The Laredo Lemurs will be at Uni-Trade Stadium through Wednesday, June 19as they face off against the Sioux Falls Canaries.
