St. Paul Saints News Release
ST. PAUL, MN (July 15, 2011) - The quest for a world record continues.
Mudonna will continue her training for the Twin Cities Marathon in October by running in the Puma 5K Dash at the National Sports Center in Blaine on Sunday, July 17 at 10:00 a.m. This is Mudonna's second race since participating in the Red, Blue and Boom Half Marathonon on July 4th, where she finished with a time of 2:09:54. Mudonna will be running in hopes of breaking the mascot world record marathon time of 4:15:03, held by Jefferson the Dog (Peter Donato) in Canada.
Mudonna's run will be in support of earthquake and tsunami relief in Japan, which was ravaged in March 2011. Mudonna's run for glory will benefit Convoy of Hope (COH) and Tokiwagi Gakuen High School. Convoy of Hope's mission in Japan is allowing displaced families to go back to living their normal lives by providing temporary shelters as well as appliances that make up a home. COH has been installing refrigerators, faucets, washers/dryers, microwaves and other appliances to temporary shelters that have been financed by the Japanese government. They have already committed volunteers to stay in the disaster area until at the least, next March.
Tokiwagi Gakuen High School is located in Sendai, Japan, which was the area hit hardest by the disaster. There is a local connection to the high school. Every three years, since 1999, they have sent their girls soccer teams to the USA Cup International Youth Soccer Tournament at the National Sports Center in Blaine, MN.
Saints fans can help. Those rallying around this great cause will receive special gifts from the Saints. If you donate a dollar for every mile Mudonna runs, you will receive a Saints hat. Donate $2 per mile, you'll get a Saints hat and two outfield reserved tickets to a game. Sending in $5 per mile gets you two outfield reserved tickets plus a ceremonial first pitch. The biggest donation at ten dollars per mile will set you up with our ultimate reward, two infield reserved tickets and the "Be A Saint" Experience. The "Be A Saint" Experience allows you the opportunity to come before a game and play catch with a player, take batting practice and stand next to the players during the national anthem, announcements and introductions while being immersed as a St. Paul Saint for their pre-game activities.
You can send in your donation via mail to Midway Stadium 1771 Energy Park Dr. St. Paul, MN 55108, visit our donation spot at the Fan Services booth, or you can contribute online at http://www.saintsbaseball.com/runforrecovery. In addition, the Saints' Seigo Masubuchi will have his CD, "Seigo Sings", on sale at the Schuler Shoes Fan Services Booth at all Saints home games for just $10 with proceeds going to both charities.
