St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN (July 15, 2011) - He came out of retirement because the St. Paul Saints were decimated by injuries. Unfortunately, the injury bug got to Brent Krause in just his third game back as he broke his wrist on Thursday night in a game against the Sioux City Explorers and will miss the rest of the season. The Saints also released infielder Jake Krause.

Krause was attempting to score from second on a single to left in the second inning and as he slid head first into the plate his left hand made contact with the catcher's shin guard. He was taken for x-rays and doctors confirmed the wrist was broken sidelining him for the remainder of the season.

"I feel terrible for Brent," said Saints manager George Tsamis. "He was so excited to be back. You could see how happy he was back playing again. It stinks."

In two games plus one at bat on Thursday Krause was 1-9 with a home run, RBI and a run scored. He added to his Saints career home run total and now has 41 leaving him 13 shy of tying David Kennedy's (1994, 97-99) franchise record.

Krause is the Saints career record holder in every other major offensive category. He is first in: RBI (212), runs (233), at bats (1283), stolen bases (54), walks (167), games played (342), hits (411), doubles (97), triples (13) and extra base hits (150).

Krause was an All-Star in 2010, his fourth consecutive with the Saints, hitting .311 with six homers and 55 RBI in 95 games. In 347 at bats he scored 62 runs, had 29 doubles, four triples, stole 13 bases, with an on base percentage of .404 and a slugging percentage of .470. He reached base safely in 23 consecutive games from June 27-July 29.

During his first two seasons with the Saints, 2007 and 2008, Krause had his contract purchased by a Major League organization. In 2007 he had his contract purchased right before the All-Star break by the Baltimore Orioles and played at Single-A Frederick where he hit .275 with five homer and 20 RBI. The following season the Milwaukee Brewers purchased his contract following the American Association season and he played three games at Double-A Huntsville going 3-8 with a double and two RBI.

The Saints released infielder Jake Krause (no relation) who was hitting 177 with no home runs and five RBI in 28 games.

The Saints roster now stands at 20 players, two shy of the league maximum of 22, with 10 pitchers and 10 position players.
