St. Paul 7, Sioux City 5 (10 innings)
The Saints trailed by three runs entering the seventh inning against Sioux City, but consistent - if not powerful - at-bats led to three consecutive one-run frames that forced extra innings. And in the 10th, St. Paul kept its momentum going, scoring two runs in the top of the inning to take a 7-5 win. The go-ahead run in the 10th came via an Ole Sheldon double, when the DH picked up one of his three hits to score leadoff 2B Adam Frost. Sheldon scored moments later on a single by LF Jason Cooper. Sioux City mounted an impressive effort in the bottom of the inning. But after the Explorers loaded the bases with two outs, Saints reliever Robert Manuel closed the door, forcing Explorers' RF Derek Schermerhorn to fly out to right field and earning his 13th save of the year. The win went to reliever Kyle Foster, who threw just two-thirds of an inning and struck out one.
Gary SouthShore 8, Shreveport-bossier 2
It was a complete team effort from the RailCats in their 8-2 win against Shreveport-Bossier on Friday, as every Gary SouthShore player that stepped up to bat picked up at least one hit. And eight of them either scored a run or batted one in. RailCats 2B Brad Boyer led all players with three hits and double in Mike Massaro in the fourth to give the RailCats a 7-1 lead. The two-bagger was one of two for Boyer on the night. While the lineup was putting up run after run, the Gary SouthShore pitching staff, led by starter Carlos Rivas, struck out eight Captains batters while allowing only five hits. Rivas, who threw the first five innings, was responsible for half of the Ks, matching his four hits allowed on the night. Captains DH Palmer Karr Jr. hit his seventh home run of the season, his only hit of the night, in the sixth inning as the lone highlight for Shreveport-Bossier.
Winnipeg 18, Sioux Falls 1
Starting Goldeyes pitcher Andrew Walker went five full innings between hits Friday night, tossing a complete-game and allowing just one run on six hits with five strikeouts. After giving up a Reggie Abercrombie two-out single in the first, Walker didn't allow another base knock until the sixth, and by then his team had mounted a 16-0 advantage. Winnipeg LF Jon Weber got the scoring started with a three-run double in the first and later blasted a solo homer to open the fifth and put the Goldeyes on top, 16-0. While Weber and 1B/3B Brian Myrow each homered, RF Kody Kaiser did everything but, falling a round-tripper shy of the cycle, going 3-for-6 with three runs and four RBI.
Amarillo 9, Lincoln 4
Sox leadoff CF Fehlandt Lentini did his job Friday, getting on base in three of his four at-bats - each time on a hit - to give Amarillo a strong jumping-off point in its 9-4 win over Lincoln. Lentini also batted in two runs and scored twice, both of which tied for game-high honors. The Sox never trailed against Lincoln, though the Saltdgos did manage to tie the score a two runs each on a fourth-inning Brandon Jones sac fly. But that only inspired Amarillo, who scored seven runs without a single Saltdog crossing home plate. Joining Lentini with two runs scored for Amarillo, 3B Van Pope went 2-for-5 with an RBI. Sox starting pitcher Travis Lawler earned the win, throwing seven innings and striking out five while allowing tow runs on six hits.
Wichita 5, Grand Prairie 0
The Wingnuts got four consecutive two-out singles in the first to plate three runs, setting the tempo for their 5-0 win over Grand Prairie. The three batters who registered RBIs in the opening frame - 1B Jorge Delgado, DH Josh Workman and RF Peter Barrows - combined for just four hits on the night, with Barrows earning two. But timing was everything for the trio, whose hit barrage put Wichita on top for good. Starting Wingnuts pitcher Ryan Hinson threw an impressive seven innings, striking out six and giving up just four hits before making way for the bullpen duo of Kendy Batista and Jared Simon. The pair allowed just one hit over the final two innings and retired the last four Grand Prairie batters to seal the Wichita win.
Kansas City 7, Fargo-Moorhead 5
The T-Bones scored seven runs in three innings to take a 4-0 disadvantage and turn it into a 7-4 win over the RedHawks. Kansas City CF Keanon Simon started the rally with a two-run double that plated teammates Johnny Bowden and Jeff Hulett. Simon - whose three-bagger was his only hit of the night - scored on the very next at-bat, thanks to a Gerardo Caceres single. Fargo-Moorhead put two runs on the board in the sixth. But it wasn't enough to halt the T-Bones' momentum. Both teams ended with double-digit numbers in the hits column, but it was Kansas City's ability to draw walks - the T-Bones six free passes tripled Fargo-Moorhead's total - that proved to be the difference, as two of the T-Bones' runs were scored by men who walked to first.
Fort Worth 13, El Paso 6 (In progress - Top 8)
The Cats scored six first-innings runs against the Diablos and hold a strong, 13-6 lead over El Paso in the top of the eighth inning. Fort Worth led by as many as nine runs in the third and have four batters with at least three hits, led by CF Brian Fryer, who is 4-for-4 with three runs scored.
