April 28, 2022 - International League (IL)
St. Paul Saints News Release
ST. PAUL, MN - The St. Paul Saints were tied for the third fewest home runs allowed in the International League entering play on Thursday night. The Nashville Sounds had hit the fourth fewest home runs in the league. None of that mattered as the Saints gave up four solo home runs, losing 6-2 and snapping their franchise tying high five-game home win streak in front of 4,105 at CHS Field.
The Sounds struck first in the first when the Milwaukee Brewers number two prospect, Brice Turang, hit his first homer of the season, a solo shot to right, making it 1-0.
Another long ball got the Sounds a run in the second when Weston Wilson hit his second homer of the season, a solo homer to left, putting the Sounds up 2-0.
In the third, the Sound put up two more runs with just one hit. A walk, single, and walk loaded the bases with nobody out. With one out, Jon Singleton walked to force in a run and make it 3-0. A wild pitch allowed another run to score increasing the lead to 4-0.
The Saints would get on the board in the bottom of the third when Royce Lewis reached on a two-out infield single to short. He stole second and scored on a single from Jake Cave cutting the deficit to 4-1.
The Sounds got their third home run of the game, a solo shot from Singleton in the fifth, his fourth of the season, increasing the lead to 5-1.
The Saints snagged the run back in the sixth as Jose Miranda led off with a single to right. With one out, Curtis Terry extended his hitting streak to five games with a single to right putting runners at first and second. Derek Fisher doubled home Miranda, making it 5-2 as Terry was thrown out trying to take third.
Wilson came calling for the Sounds again in the eighth when he hit his second homer of the game, a solo blast to left, making it 6-2.
The four home runs allowed by the Saints were the most this season.
The same two teams meet in game four of the six-game series on Friday night at 6:37 p.m. The Saints send RHP Chi Chi González (2-1, 4.22) to the mound against Sounds LHP Ethan Small (2-0, 0.49). The game can be seen on FOX9 Plus and MiLB.TV and heard on KFAN Plus, 96.7 FM.
