CHARLOTTE, N.C. - JJ Bleday homered and Erik González lashed three hits on Thursday, but the Charlotte Knights roared by the Jacksonville 12-5 at Truist Field.

For the second night in a row, the Knights (9-12) took control of the game with a monstrous second inning. Blake Rutherford began the frame against Jumbo Shrimp (11-10) starter Bryan Mitchell (0-1) with a single. Seby Zavala followed with a single and after a fly out, Jameson Fisher walked to load the bases. Mitchell struck out Mark Payton, but then served up a bases-clearing double to Zach Remillard, who went 3-for-3 with two doubles, one home run, six RBIs and a walk, for the game's first runs. Adam Haseley followed with an RBI two-bagger to make it 4-0.

Rutherford and Zavala began the third with base hits. A strikeout brought up Fisher, who singled to again load the bases. Payton notched an RBI single and then Remillard collected a two-run double to widen the gap to 7-0.

Jacksonville finally got on the board in the fifth. Peyton Burdick walked and then Bleday smashed a two-run home run off Knights reliever Kyle Kubat (2-0). Charles Leblanc followed that with a free pass of his own, scoring two batters later on González's RBI double.

Immediately, though, Charlotte responded to put the game out of reach. Remillard homered to begin the fifth inning. In the sixth, Micker Adolfo socked a two-run bomb and Haseley registered an RBI double with a Ryder Jones RBI ground out in the seventh to put Charlotte ahead 12-3.

González singled to start the eighth. After a strikeout, he advanced to second on a Brian Miller base hit. Willians Astudillo then socked an RBI double to draw the Jumbo Shrimp within 12-4.

A Bleday walked started the ninth. González singled with two outs before Demetrius Sims' RBI single got the final margin to 12-5.

Jacksonville sends LHP Matthew Kent (0-1, 5.40 ERA) to the mound in Friday's 7:04 p.m. first pitch against Knights RHP Kade McClure (0-1, 6.75 ERA).
