Sacramento River Cats News Release

West Sacramento, CA - For the second straight game, the Sacramento offense was nowhere to be found as the River Cats (21-30) fell 4-1 to the Oklahoma City Dodgers (26-22) in Sunday's matinee. After snapping their six-game win streak against the Dodgers in last night's contest, the River Cats have now lost two in a row, totaling two runs in those games.

24-year-old Joan Gregorio made his third start today for Sacramento, all of which have come at Raley Field. The 6'7" right-hander was feeling it today, striking out eight over five innings for the second consecutive start. Over those five innings, the Dominican Republic native allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits with one walk.

The Dodgers came out swinging, scoring three runs on three hits in the first two innings, but the lanky fire-baller settled in for the third, setting the Dodgers down in order and striking out two of the three batters he faced. In total he threw a season-high 92 pitches (61 for strikes) and only allowed one run on two hits after the second frame.

Not to be outdone was Oklahoma City starter Jharel Cotton. Cotton, ranked as the 17th best prospect in the Dodgers organization, went five strong innings, striking out five while allowing one run in the first inning, his only blemish. After the first inning, the right-hander held Sacramento to one hit and one walk through the next four.

The River Cats offense was only able to push one run across for the second consecutive game and despite ranking third in hits in the Pacific Coast League (467), have only managed 13 in their last two. Second baseman Ramiro Pena has been one of the key contributors and has now hit safely in nine straight games.

Third baseman Mitch Delfino and right fielder Mac Williamson, the third and fourth hitters in the lineup respectively, got the River Cats offense off to a good start. In the bottom of the first inning, Delfino was able to get a hold of a Cotton fastball, driving it down the right field line for a double. Williamson followed suit with a double of his own, a laser beam to dead center, scoring Delfino. That would be it for the afternoon, though, as veteran catcher Miguel Olivo registered the only multi-hit game for Sacramento, his fifth on the year.

Monday will once again be a day game as Sacramento sends Clayton Blackburn (2-3, 4.46) to the mound, looking for his third win at Raley Field. The Oklahoma City Dodgers will counter with Sam LeCure, (2-2, 5.44). First pitch is at 1:05 p.m. and the game can be heard live online at rivercats.com and on the air at ESPN 1320.
