Sky Sox Stunned 8-4 in Fresno

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - The Colorado Springs Sky Sox came back to tie Saturday night's game against the Fresno Grizzlies late, but the home team walked off to even up the series with an 8-4 win at Chukchanski Park.

After pinch-running earlier in the game, Danny Worth knocked a walk-off grand slam to left field to give the Grizzlies the victory in the bottom of the ninth.

Getting his second start of the season for the Sky Sox, Sam Freeman (0-0, 4.26) started off with two scoreless innings to begin the night. In the third, the Grizzlies were able to break through and get on the scoreboard.

Jack Mayfield singled in the first run of the game for Fresno to score Jon Kemmer. A couple batters later, the Sky Sox turned to Ariel Pena out of the bullpen. The first batter he faced, Matt Duffy, hit a two-run home run to left field to give the Grizzlies a 3-0 lead.

Freeman finished his start with two earned runs against in two and two thirds innings pitched.

Colorado Springs responded in the top of the fourth as Manny Pina hit a two-run home run, his fourth of the season, to cut the Fresno lead to 3-2 in the fourth against Fresno starter Tommy Shirley (3-3, 4.15).

In the fifth, Fresno added to the lead on a bases loaded walk from A.J. Reed off Pena that made the score 4-2 Fresno.

Again, the Sky Sox cut into the lead in the sixth as Andy Wilkins hit a two out double off the center field wall to cut the Sky Sox deficit to just a run.

Michael Kirkman came in out of the Sky Sox bullpen in the sixth and pitched a scoreless frame.

Yadiel Rivera tied the game in the seventh with a two-out double down the left field line to score Shane Peterson with the tying run as the Sky Sox leveled the score at four.

The Sky Sox then turned to closer Damien Magnifico in the bottom of the seventh, and he provided strong relief work out of the bullpen, pitching two scoreless innings to keep the game tied.

In the ninth, James Hoyt held the Sky Sox scoreless to give his team a chance to win.

Jaye Chapman came on for the Sky Sox in the bottom half, but surrendered the walk-off grand slam to end the game. Chapman suffered his first loss of the season.

The Sky Sox and Grizzlies continue their series with a day game tomorrow afternoon. Taylor Jungmann (1-2, 12.76) is scheduled to start for the Sky Sox against Brad Peacock (0-1, 5.67). First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. MDT at Chukchanski Park.
