Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

Four runs in the eighth inning by the Iowa Cubs (22-26) sparked them to a come-from-behind 6-4 victory over the Albuquerque Isotopes (22-28) on Sunday afternoon at Principal Park.

Both teams were held scoreless through the first three innings before Tom Murphy drilled a two-run home run over the right field fence in the top of the fourth. Murphy is now tied for team lead in home runs for the season with five.

Isotopes starter Shane Carle retired the first 11 batters he faced Sunday with the streak ending on Matt Murton's two-out single in the fourth. The next batter Dan Vogelbach brought Murton home with an RBI double for Iowa's first run of the game. Albuquerque responded the following inning when Carle lead-off the frame with a double and later scored on Brandon Barnes' RBI single.

Iowa catcher David Freitas' sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth cut the Isotopes lead to 3-2. Chris Nelson logged his third hit of the day in the eighth inning with an RBI single to put Albuquerque ahead by two runs.

The I-Cubs would begin their rally in the bottom eighth with three-straight singles before Munenori Kawasaki came home on a fielder's choice to even the score at 4-4. Two batters later the go-ahead run would score on a passed ball by Murphy. Iowa scored once more in the inning on Logan Watkins' RBI single to give them a 6-4 lead.

The Isotopes and Cubs will conclude their series tomorrow morning in Des Moines. Jordan Lyles (1-1, 5.40) will get the start for Albuquerque, while Jake Buchanan (3-3, 5.58) will be on the mound for Iowa. The Memorial Day game at Principal Park is slated to begin at 11:08 a.m.
